BRE (Building Research Establishment), based in London, after evaluating the report on the multi-criteria environmental assessment of the project of the buildings of the Marshal&#8217;s City Hall in Krakow, issued a BREEAM Interim EXCELLENT certificate. The project ultimately received 73.3% of the points, resulting in an Excellent rating. We are delighted to have received such a high environmental rating &#8211; especially since the Marshal&#8217;s City Hall building complex we designed will be the first public building in Poland (the seat of local government) to be certified. At the time of receiving the certificate, it is also one of only two buildings in Poland to be assessed at the BREEAM Excellent certification level according to the new, stricter criteria of BREEAM International New Construction 2013. The project was awarded a BREEAM Excellent certificate thanks to, among other things, the use of advanced installation solutions (including tri-generation as a source of heat, cooling and electricity, a digital DALI lighting control system based on LED sources), full control of the building&#8217;s operation integrated within the BMS, as well as a number of innovative architectural solutions, which helped to achieve a high rating in the so-called \u201csoft\u201d categories (lighting, acoustics, materials and landscaping). An analysis of the certification carried out shows that the building will not only be energy efficient, but above all friendly to its users and visitors. Such a high environmental standard of the new UMWM headquarters, according to the investor&#8217;s assumptions, is to reflect the innovation and emphasis placed on ecology in the Malopolska Region. From our point of view, as designers, the most important information is the news that the BREEAM Excellent level has been achieved without any major changes to the competition design prepared by Horizone Studio in October 2013.
